Preserving the historical past of this famous theatre - the official state theatre of Kansas - is important. However, this project is also about the future.
Upon its restoration, the Jayhawk Theatre will preserve the past by ensuring much of the original interior of the theatre is preserved.
There will, however, be important new additions to keep the facility current and relevant! Among the features and benefits of restoration:
* The 900-seat theatre will attract performers and create a unique, intimate atmosphere for performances.
* It will show a variety of films - new and old.
* Provide a unique venue for community artists, entertainers and others to perform and showcase their work.
* Will have meeting facilities.
* Plans include a catering kitchen.
* Exterior lit marquees replicating the original signs that lined Jackson Avenue.
* Wired for teleconferencing and other technological meeting innovations.
* Digital projection for live and recorded events.
* Restored interior preserving the beauty of the past.
* Modern seating that conforms to the theatres history while providing comfort for today's audiences.
* Permanent recognitions for supporters of the project.
* Permanent showcase detailing the theatre's past.
.... and much more!

WITH YOUR HELP, THE PROJECT IS A GO!
All that is needed to restore this historic theatre is money (famous last words, right?)
The property is secure, plans have been designed by professional architects and there is an established Board of Director's comprised of Topekans ready to restore the theatre.
Total cost of the final project is projected at more than $8 million. A small amount considering the cultural and long-term economic benefits the restoration will bring to downtown and the entire Topeka community.
Please support the Jayhawk Society and the theatre and help it reach its goal so restoration can begin!
